Uniform Crime Reports
|
The below form is used to plot certain crime data that were formed from Uniform Crime Reports recorded by the
Pittsburgh Police. Part One crimes include Homicide, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Theft, Motor
Vehicle Theft, and Arson.
Generally, Part Two crimes include Forgery, Simple Assault, Fraud, Embezzlement, Stolen Property, Vandalism, Weapon
Violations, Prostitution, Other Sex Offenses, Drug Violations, Gambling, Family Violence, Drunken Driving, Liquor
Law Violations, Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, and Other Crimes.
Data from these various crimes, along with Part One, Part Two, and Grand Totals, are plotted from 1996 to 2006 for
various Pittsburgh neighborhoods, as well as for the city itself. To (de)select more than one neighborhood or crime,
hold down the CTRL key while clicking selections. Up to ten lines will be plotted.
There are 88 rather than 90 neighborhoods because South Shore is not reported separately in the neighborhood data and
Glen Hazel has since been combined with Hazelwood. The jitter option can be used to add a bit of noise to the data to
help distinguish overlying lines.
NOTE: The data are from Reported Totals and may not be consistent with the Actual Totals reported to the FBI for the
purpose of the Uniform Crime Reports. Accuracy is attempted but not guaranteed. These data and plots are for
informational purposes only.
