LEMURtron is a modern musical extravaganza like you've never seen or heard before! Combining common and unusual musical instruments with robotic technology, the exhibit features a futuristic 'band' of music makers with members that include GuitarBot, ModBots and the infamous Ill-Tempered Clangier. YOU "play" the "Bots" by moving and dancing on the lighted dance floor, making your own concert of techno music.
LEMURtron is created by LEMUR (League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots), a Brooklyn, NY-based group of artists and technologists creating exotic, sculptural musical instruments which integrate robotic technology. LEMUR was founded by Eric Singer in 2000.

Heinz Endowments/Pittsburgh 250/Artist-YouthPlaces Project Grants
As part of a $1 million initiative to celebrate Pittsburgh’s 250th birthday, project curator, Tom Sokolowski, director of The Andy Warhol Museum, has crafted a partnership between area artists to work with the YouthPlaces organization.
Artists are invited to make an application for a grant to work with the YouthPlaces organization in City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods with underserved youth ages 12 through 18. Ten grants of $5,000 will be awarded to ten artists. Artists are defined as visual artists, dancers, choreographers, actors, musicians, designers, and fashion designers. Programming will take place during non-school and weekend hours within cultural or community organizations. Qualifications include the following: must be interested in CALL FOR ARTISTS working with teenagers in a community-based setting and be comfortable in culturally distinct environments; must be able to develop and implement in-depth arts experiences/programming working with the staff of YouthPlaces; must obtain ACT 33/34 clearances; must be willing to build a strong holistic approach to working with young people including building relationships within their communities.
Applications should include a professional resume and examples of artistic work (slides, tapes, and photographs of art works). Please do not send actual artworks. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of materials. Further, the application should include a statement of no more than 500 words explaining why this grant is important to you, and how you feel this program would influence both your own art practice as well as stimulate and stretch the minds and talents of young people.
Application Deadline: August 15, 2008
Interviews with semi-finalists will be scheduled during the last week of August. Programs will begin variously from late September.
