Wired to Win

Wired to Win, an extraordinary new film in IMAX®, showcases the amazing ability of the human brain to overcome adversity, accomplish the near-impossible, and power each of us to victory and success in life.

The brain’s abilities are illustrated through cyclists racing in the Tour De France. Over the course of the event, they are caught up in hair-raising crashes, dramatic battles over the Alps and Pyrenees and action-packed descents down steep mountain roads. Their ultimate goal? The finish line on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The film raises the questions "how do they do this?" and "why do they do this?" Ultimately the answers lie within the mind and the human brain itself.

VIPERS SOUL CLUB presents SHAKE YOUR HEAD

VIPERS SOUL CLUB presents SHAKE YOUR HEAD
10 p.m. Sat., Jan. 26, Shadow Lounge, East Liberty.
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust / if the whiskey don’t get ya, then the women must.”
-Trad., attributed to Vipers Soul Club
Feelin’ like yer dancin’ music’s gotten a bit dry, like ya couldn’t even spit cotton? Like no matter how good the main line is, it’s that side track, the one that’s been eluding ya and deluding ya, that can switch ya like ya ain’t been switched? VIPERS SOUL CLUB’s got that special UMPH, that little microcosm of mojo, that cures all what ails and ales ya, and oughtta make ya spit blood and fire again!
VIPERS SOUL CLUB’s got that gritty grind of late-50s and early-60s R&B – from Etta James and Big Maybelle, from Elmore James and the “5” Royales. The sound of sweaty juke joints and a Chicago brawls and fine, fine Gin and Mez that made the population jump like a Richter scale wherever it reared its nasty head!
VIPERS SOUL CLUB’s got that one-two punch that made MOTOWN the Sound of Young America, the motor-city shuffle of Marvin Gaye, the Miracles, the Supremes and Stevie Wonder. The dance-floor groove that brought this country to its knees and formed the backbone of America’s mid-century cultural domination – the B-1 bomber of SOUL!
VIPERS SOUL CLUB’s got that fierce, flared, stomping soar of NORTHERN SOUL, the fast-paced explosion of never-before-played rare uptempo ’60s sounds and perennial Pittsburgh picks like “Manifesto,” “Job Opening,” “Shake Your Head,” and oh, so many more!
And VIPERS SOUL CLUB’s got those eccentric beeps and bops from LATIN and BOOGALOO to HAMMOND GROOVES and MOD JAZZ, that’ll make you sweat through the pits of your Crombie coat and make Fred Perry roll over in his grave at the yellow curd growing on your once-proper polo!
Continuing where SOULCIALISM and CASHIN’ IN left off, the founders of those two nights – DJ’s JUDDY and GORDY – bring you some of the flavor of the good-ol’ days and a lot of jump-start for the good-new days!
It all goes down in the comfy confines of the SHADOW LOUNGE, Pittsburgh’s home of hep and bastion of bona fide beauty at 5972 BAUM BLVD, near S. HIGHLAND AVE., East Liberty. It’s the first-ever SOUL NIGHT in Pittsburgh with a SMOKE-FREE dance floor, so you can choose what and when to inhale!
For more info, try this stuff out: www.shadowlounge.net or 412-363-8277 for the Lounge; www.myspace.com/vipersoulclub for the jocks.
When the time comes to put your back against the wall and call the roll, make sure you can hold your head up high and tell the world: “I’s a VIPER.”
