FarmJammaLamma Music Festival

First ever FarmJammaLamma Music Festival to be held over the weekend of August 1 – August 3, 2008. Featuring: 28 North, The Big Dirty, Karmic Juggernaut and Fourth River with Pittsburgh-based Jazzam headlining the event and playing an ALL NIGHT SET!

FarmJammaLamma will showcase high-energy musical acts encompassing jazz, funk, rock, blues, jam and more. FarmJammaLamma sets itself apart with a natural and organic atmosphere complemented by green grass and the open sky. The focus is on the music and good times with no commercial interference.

This weekend of music is set on a 100-acre farm in the green hills of Brookville, PA (just 90 minutes North of Downtown Pittsburgh). FarmJammaLamma boasts a tree-lined natural amphitheatre surrounded by wooded areas and open fields creating a perfect vantage for seeing and hearing live music.

Music begins at 11:00 AM Saturday Morning. Gates open Friday August 1, 2008 3:00 PM. Free camping will be available the entire weekend. Drum circle and other activities throughout the weekend. Tickets are on sale now for $20 at www.farmjammalamma.com. This event is rain or shine. 10% of the proceeds from FarmJammaLamma will go to The Beautiful Smiles Foundation of Pennsylvania.

This amazing music event will be held at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee/Spencer on August 2, 2008, featuring national recording artist - B.E. Taylor and his outstanding band in Concert!
Other performers include -- Kelsey Friday, the Ian Arthur Band, and the Allegheny Drifters. At the conclusion of the night of music, we will enjoy a spectacular Zambelli Fireworks display.

The proceeds from this wonderful event will benefit the
special needs camps of YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee/Spencer.

LEMURtron is a modern musical extravaganza like you've never seen or heard before! Combining common and unusual musical instruments with robotic technology, the exhibit features a futuristic 'band' of music makers with members that include GuitarBot, ModBots and the infamous Ill-Tempered Clangier. YOU "play" the "Bots" by moving and dancing on the lighted dance floor, making your own concert of techno music.
LEMURtron is created by LEMUR (League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots), a Brooklyn, NY-based group of artists and technologists creating exotic, sculptural musical instruments which integrate robotic technology. LEMUR was founded by Eric Singer in 2000.

17th annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk

The St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K follows an out-and-back course along the flat and rolling terrain of Meridian Road. Runners are timed using a ChampionChip device. Trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three males and females in 14 age categories. Corporate teams of up to five runners are encouraged to participate and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.

Heinz Endowments/Pittsburgh 250/Artist-YouthPlaces Project Grants
As part of a $1 million initiative to celebrate Pittsburgh’s 250th birthday, project curator, Tom Sokolowski, director of The Andy Warhol Museum, has crafted a partnership between area artists to work with the YouthPlaces organization.
Artists are invited to make an application for a grant to work with the YouthPlaces organization in City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods with underserved youth ages 12 through 18. Ten grants of $5,000 will be awarded to ten artists. Artists are defined as visual artists, dancers, choreographers, actors, musicians, designers, and fashion designers. Programming will take place during non-school and weekend hours within cultural or community organizations. Qualifications include the following: must be interested in CALL FOR ARTISTS working with teenagers in a community-based setting and be comfortable in culturally distinct environments; must be able to develop and implement in-depth arts experiences/programming working with the staff of YouthPlaces; must obtain ACT 33/34 clearances; must be willing to build a strong holistic approach to working with young people including building relationships within their communities.
Applications should include a professional resume and examples of artistic work (slides, tapes, and photographs of art works). Please do not send actual artworks. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of materials. Further, the application should include a statement of no more than 500 words explaining why this grant is important to you, and how you feel this program would influence both your own art practice as well as stimulate and stretch the minds and talents of young people.
Application Deadline: August 15, 2008
Interviews with semi-finalists will be scheduled during the last week of August. Programs will begin variously from late September.

Its that time of the year again! The Community Empowerment Association will be presenting the 5th Annual Black Family Reunion on August 2nd and 3rd at Mellon Park. This event has proved to be a landmark in Pittsburgh's cultural landscape and a great family event, where people of all ages from all over the Pittsburgh and surrounding communities can unite and celebrate the gifts and talents that the African-American community has to offer.Attractions include the “Peace in the Hood” Three on Three Basketball and Slam Dunk Tournament, performances of dance, Jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, spoken word, vendors, family feud, panel discussions, workshops, network tents, health screenings, as well as mountain climbing, moon jump, a petting zoo, arts and crafts for the youth.

Enjoy an evening of dinner and death with the interactive Survivor parody murder mystery. Be prepared to search for clues and laugh away with an evening's comedy. Without A Cue Murder Mysteries, a Philadelphia-based touring theater compnay, is proud to present "Coconuts and Carnage".
