Allegheny County Summer Concert Series presents Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre at Hartwood Acres
Calendar: Local Calendar
21 Aug 2008
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents a spectacular evening under the stars at Hartwood Acres. This dynamic mixed repertoire features two Twyla Tharp masterpieces, Octet and Known by Heart (“Junk”) Duet, and Raymonda Variations.

Aesthetically elegant and intentionally sleek, the dancing and dancers radiate a spareness synonymous with essentials.

Known by Heart (“Junk”) Duet
Tharp takes the formal structure of the classical duet into a contemporary realm through the witty, fierce, sometimes combative and always surprising relationship she creates between the partners.

Raymonda Variations
Staged by PBT Artistic Director, Terrence S. Orr, with choreography after Marius Petipa, Raymonda Variations features nine couples and is set to Alexander Glazounov’s classic score.

About the movie:
In 1976, a small American winery sent shock waves through the wine industry by besting the exalted French wines in a blind tasting, putting California wines on the map for good. Not only is "BOTTLE SHOCK" based on this infamous true story of love, victory and fermentation, but it was produced by Pittsburgh's own Marc and Brenda Lhormer of Zin Haze Productions. "BOTTLE SHOCK" was directed by Randall Miller and stars Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Dennis Farina, Rachael Taylor, Freddy Rodriguez, Chris Pine and Eliza Dushku. The true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the worst singer in the world.

Step back in time to New York in the 1940s. At the time, the city was a haven for eccentric characters struggling to make their mark. One New York socialite and aspiring opera singer, Florence Foster-Jenkins, became an immensely popular musical performer through the sheer strength of her personality, the devoted support of her adoring friends, and the unabashed self-confidence about the beauty of her stupendously horrendous singing voice. The play follows Foster-Jenkins from charity recitals and extravagant balls all the way to Carnegie Hall.
