Forster, one of the founders of revered and highly influential Australian indie rock band The Go-Betweens, was profoundly influenced by the pioneering new sound of Velvet Underground growing up in Brisbane in the 60’s. The performance was commissioned by the Queensland Art Gallery for the opening of their exhibition “Andy Warhol” in December 2007 and it will only be performed at two venues in this country.
A pre-show and post-show mod Motown dance party featuring Justin Hopper of Viper Soul Club will accompany the performance.

DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA
Ever wish you could go into a time machine and go back to a time when life was much more simple, but far more fun? Well, here it is! DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA is two nights of classic horror and science fiction 35mm prints presented at an authentic drive-in movie theater. There will be two big shows on two consecutive nights which will start at dusk and go on until really late into the night! This is the second year in a row that we are hosting such an event, so we encourage all East Coast drive-in movie fanatics to attend and make it another rousing success! What could be better than a weekend getaway topped off with two nights of classic monster movies on the big outdoor screen? We realize that everything is so expensive these days, but admission is only $10 a person each night! Plus, children 12 and under are free with parent or adult guardian. How can you beat that? The Riverside’s concession stand is loaded with reasonably priced goodies, including hot foods, hot and cold drinks, candy, popcorn and much more!

What is being shown and when?

On Friday, September 12, the features will be “Cry of the Banshee”, “Frogs”, George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” and “The Crazies”.

On Saturday, September 13, the features will be “Blacula”, “Return of Count Yorga”, “Dracula vs. Frankenstein” and “Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman”.

Each night we will also present an array of vintage monster movies trailers in between the features which we know you will just love! This year, we might even have a few surprise short subjects!

Where is the theater?

DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA will be held at the Riverside Drive-In Theatre in Vandergrift, PA. For the dates of September 12 and 13, the theater will devote its screen exclusively to these special nights of vintage entertainment. The actual driving location of the theater reads as: Riverside Drive In Theatre, Route 66 N, Vandergrift, PA 15690. If you put that information as your destination on Mapquest, you can easily access directions from your starting location. The phone number of the theater is 724-568-1250 and their website is www.riversidedrivein.com

The Phoenix Jazz Project

Most of the basis for the sextet's music lies in traditional jazz, but the group prides itself in creating and performing good music regardless of genre. From the traditional styles of originals “Halfway Out” and “Billy or Bud” to the modernized arrangements of classics “If I Only Had a Brain” and “Softly As a Morning Sunrise,” The Phoenix Jazz Project provides a wide variety of entertaining music. Having only been in existence for a few years, The Phoenix Jazz Project has already wowed audiences from Pittsburgh to Prague. A June 2005 tour to Eastern Europe including Budapest's Cotton Club and Vienna's Jazzland produced standing ovations and rave reviews. That tour also included stops in Prague, Czech Republic, Bratislava, Slovakia and Krakow, Poland where the band performed and conducted clinics. A December 2005 tour to Belgium yielded more performances, clinics, and standing ovations. This new Pittsburgh band already has the locals raving about their “New York Sound.” Their current project has pianist/composer/arranger Thomas Glovier writing and arranging classics for a collaboration cd with The Traverser Saxophone Quartet due to be released summer 2008.
