The Pittsburgh City Paper and All About Youth present the the fourth annual Local Motion Fashion Show on September 18, 2008. This year the show will be held at the James Centre in Pittsburgh's West End.
The show will feature work from local designers, stylists, and models. Local Motion strives to increase awareness of Pittsburgh's growing fashion culture while benefiting a local charity.
This year proceeds will be donated to the Family services of Western Pennsylvania's Educational Assistance Initiative. The program privides secondary educational resources for yourth who otugrow foster care and other social systems.

Life on Mars, the 2008 Carnegie International explores the important yet continually perplexing question of what it means to be human in the world today. Curated by Douglas Fogle, curator of contemporary art at Carnegie Museum of Art, the provocative Life on Mars will present the varying perspectives of 40 artists, spanning generations and continents. The exhibition will include diverse media, from painting, sculpture, and drawing to animation, film, installation, and performance—all searching for the sublime in the confusion of everyday life.

The making of a man. The making of a president.

In honor of the 250th anniversary celebrations for Pittsburgh and other historical sites in wouthwestern Pennsylvania, the Mountain Playhouse has commissioned a historical drama detailing the life of George Washington in the years during the French and Indian War. Penned by playwright Rob Barron, who has written several plays for the Playhouse stage including the acclaimed 5/31/90: THE FLOOD, Barron's play promises a look at the man who would rise to become a founding father of the nation while he was still a young militia officer fighting the French in the very hills that surround the Mountain Playhouse.

Fort Hand Festival

The Fort Hand Festival will be held September 18, 19, & 20th in Westmoreland County, Washington Township, approx. 4 miles south of Apollo. The festival will include crafters, food vendors, kickball & volleyball tournaments, carnival rides and more. Covered wagon and pony rides, train rides and other children’s games and activities will be available. Entertainment will be provided all days with a variety of bands and more. Historic re-enactors will be there to show life as it was when the fort was active. There will be fireworks Sat. night. Free admission and free parking.
