MIXED UP WEDNESDAYS
Calendar: Local Calendar

23 Jul 2008
"Mixed up Wednesdays" takes place each Wednesday night at Lava Lounge located at 2204 East Carson Street on Pittsburgh's South Side. Resident DJ Ian Friend and special guests Adammmm and Sasqautch of MFPA fame spin classic and current underground dance music, old skool hip hop, 80's new wave and much more. The event runs from 10p.m. to 2a.m. with no cover, drink specials and 50 wings from the Double Wide Grill.
It's hard not get into the groove with the likes of Brazil's own CSS & Bonde Do Role blasting through the speakers. The dj's could at that point twist and turn you directly to france by spinning some of their current underground craze by the likes of Yelle, Ca$hmere or SebastiAn.
It's hard to know where else they will take you with the every growing collection of music and tracks that were purchased and debuted mere hours before the start of the event. One thing is for sure: Mixed Up Wednesdays is not for the faint heart but the party animals.

The Pink Spiders

The Pink Spiders stormed onto the Nashville music scene with their eyes on the prize. In a whirlwind of hustle and clatter, the band seemed an instant iconoclastic frame of French New Wave cinema come to life. Striking figures in pink and jet black, they were distant and aloof, itchy and sex-fueled. The first gunshot came in January of 2004 with The Pink Spiders are Taking Over!, a battle cry of an EP that served as a frenetic, precocious primer for the band's pop-punk fascination with decadence, obsession and thwarted lovers.

LEMURtron is a modern musical extravaganza like you've never seen or heard before! Combining common and unusual musical instruments with robotic technology, the exhibit features a futuristic 'band' of music makers with members that include GuitarBot, ModBots and the infamous Ill-Tempered Clangier. YOU "play" the "Bots" by moving and dancing on the lighted dance floor, making your own concert of techno music.
LEMURtron is created by LEMUR (League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots), a Brooklyn, NY-based group of artists and technologists creating exotic, sculptural musical instruments which integrate robotic technology. LEMUR was founded by Eric Singer in 2000.

Paul, a professional skeptic from New York, accidentally breaks a priceless statue of Stonewall Jackson at a confederate heritage museum owned by his girlfriend's mother. Embarrassed and fearful, Paul claims the statue "just fell off" the pedestal, setting in motion a series of ever larger lies and misunderstandings that eventually lead to an exorcism on live television, and a hard choice between his personal safety and the woman he loves.
