MIXED UP WEDNESDAYS

11 Jun 2008
"Mixed up Wednesdays" takes place each Wednesday night at Lava Lounge located at 2204 East Carson Street on Pittsburgh's South Side. Resident DJ Ian Friend and special guests Adammmm and Sasqautch of MFPA fame spin classic and current underground dance music, old skool hip hop, 80's new wave and much more. The event runs from 10p.m. to 2a.m. with no cover, drink specials and 50 wings from the Double Wide Grill.
It's hard not get into the groove with the likes of Brazil's own CSS & Bonde Do Role blasting through the speakers. The dj's could at that point twist and turn you directly to france by spinning some of their current underground craze by the likes of Yelle, Ca$hmere or SebastiAn.
It's hard to know where else they will take you with the every growing collection of music and tracks that were purchased and debuted mere hours before the start of the event. One thing is for sure: Mixed Up Wednesdays is not for the faint heart but the party animals.

ROCKIN' OUT FOR AUTISM IN PITTSBURGH
May 8, 2008 – PITTSBURGH, PA – Donnie Lawless may be a renegade internet radio broadcaster and production company promoter, but he still has a pretty big soft spot for kids, particularly those with disabilities – not exactly what you'd expect from a hard rocking producer.
Working in conjunction with the Hard Rock Café at Station Square, Lawless and his partner Jason Levis of 10 Street Productions have planned Pittsburgh's first annual Rock for Autism on June 11, 2008 to benefit the Autism Center of Pittsburgh.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of this," Lawless said, "we wanted to do something for kids with autism here in Pittsburgh. The First Annual Pittsburgh Rock for Autism will feature the nationally-known band Enuff Z'Nuff, Euphonic Brew and local singer-songwriter and Kean Idol champion Maddie Georgi.
Hailed by Rolling Stone magazine in the early 90's as the "hot new band," Enuff Z'Nuff appeared on The David Letterman Show when they released their top single "Fly High Michelle." The band will be joined by Pittsburgh's own Euphonic Brew, one of the most exciting and versatile bands to emerge from the Western Pennsylvania music scene. Fifteen-year-old Maddie Georgi rounds out the event with a soulful and powerful set.
Co-owner of 10 Street Production Jason Levis is thrilled to use music as a vehicle to touch the lives of children with autism. "Music has touched my life in many ways since I was a child. It's particularly gratifying to use music as the vehicle to, in return, touch the lives of so many who are challenged with autism. Autism is a lot more common than most people would realize, and that is why it is a great pleasure to associate with a local organization like the Autism Center of Pittsburgh to both educate the public and to help those in need."
Sponsored by www.ecoshoppe.com , tickets for the event are available for $10 at www.ticketmaster.com, www.autismlinkstore.com or $15 at the door.
About the Autism Center of Pittsburgh
The Autism Center of Pittsburgh was founded by the national organization AutismLink as a response to the growing population of children with autism in Southwestern Pennsylvania and provides parent support, therapy, respite, and ongoing support and education.

At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 10 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation. We meet on the University Of Pittsburgh's campus in L-5 Clapp Hall (Lowy Room), on the corner of Fifth and Tennyson Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, across from the Cathedral of Learning. We meet from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Wednesday of each month.

Pittsburgh celebrates its 250th birthday this year, and what better way to celebrate with birthday cake? Better yet, perhaps 250 birthday cakes! That is exactly what Three Rivers Art Festival (TRAF) and Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP) are cooking up. The talented artists of AAP will be mixing up some creative ingredients into birthday cakes. That's right, all kinds of cakes, in all kinds of artistic media. Unique, decorative cake interpretations of this milestone, will be on display at the PPG Wintergarden as part of this year's Three Rivers Arts Festival, beginning June 6 and running through June 22.

Wired to Win

Wired to Win, an extraordinary new film in IMAX®, showcases the amazing ability of the human brain to overcome adversity, accomplish the near-impossible, and power each of us to victory and success in life.

The brain’s abilities are illustrated through cyclists racing in the Tour De France. Over the course of the event, they are caught up in hair-raising crashes, dramatic battles over the Alps and Pyrenees and action-packed descents down steep mountain roads. Their ultimate goal? The finish line on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The film raises the questions "how do they do this?" and "why do they do this?" Ultimately the answers lie within the mind and the human brain itself.

$8 adults; $6 children 3-12 and seniors 62+
