12 Jul 2008
Pittsburgh's sweetheart of the electric guitar, Patti Spadaro, brings her bluesy jam-rock band to Moondogs. Patti has released several cds and played all over the country. Like Eric Clapton meets the Grateful Dead with some Susan Tedeschi thrown in. Good grooves, good vibe, and plenty of improvisation with wailing female lead guitar and vocals. Blues band Shot O'Soul opens the show with an early set at 8:30. The Patti Spadaro Band plays 10pm-1am.

LEMURtron is a modern musical extravaganza like you've never seen or heard before! Combining common and unusual musical instruments with robotic technology, the exhibit features a futuristic 'band' of music makers with members that include GuitarBot, ModBots and the infamous Ill-Tempered Clangier. YOU "play" the "Bots" by moving and dancing on the lighted dance floor, making your own concert of techno music.
LEMURtron is created by LEMUR (League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots), a Brooklyn, NY-based group of artists and technologists creating exotic, sculptural musical instruments which integrate robotic technology. LEMUR was founded by Eric Singer in 2000.

The Regina Gouger Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University presents “Nancy Crow: Works from 1988-2008,” featuring more than 50 quilts that make it the largest exhibition ever of Crow’s work. On June 11, Crow will lecture and sign copies of her books at 7 p.m. in McConomy Auditorium in the University Center. Former Miller Gallery Director Petra Fallaux curates the summer exhibition, which opens with a reception June 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. and runs through August 15.
The Regina Gouger Miller Gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday, 11:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Rather than assembling a “greatest hits” compilation or a chronological survey of Crow’s career, “Nancy Crow: Works from 1988-2008” presents the works with an eye toward uncovering the artist’s process of discovery in these pivotal years. The exhibition includes examples of her quilts “Bow Tie,” “Chinese Souls” and “Linear Studies” series, as well as more than 30 works from the “Color Blocks” and “Constructions” series, including a half-dozen new quilts that will be unveiled at the exhibition.

July 11 - November 16, 2008
In 2012 zombies invade the city threatening to destroy the living. Citizens turn to robots to protect all that is human. The ensuing war is captured by image and audio. We Are Survival Machines, created by Carl DiSalvo, assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and David Holstius, senior research programmer at Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, is an interactive installation documenting this near future battle for humanity between the undead and sentient machines, set in the streets of Pittsburgh. Gigapan technology was employed to animate scenes providing viewers with a 3-dimensional video. Gigapan technology, created at Carnegie Mellon University, enhances the size of a photograph exceeding one gigapixel, which in turn, creates a panoramic experience.

Robot 250 is a city-wide community art and technology program designed in conjunction with Pittsburgh’s 250th anniversary. Launched by Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh with support from several local foundations, the program welcomes participation from the entire community with a wide range of family activities, including hands-on workshops, student and artist exhibits and film presentations.
