NATURAL DISTORTIONS
La Vie hosts show for the NCECA Invitational

February 20, 2008- Pittsburgh- La Vie welcomes “Natural Distortions”, curated by Merrie Wright and part of the 2008 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, a ceramics conference that will attract thousands of people to Pittsburgh. A soft opening will coincide with the monthly Final Fridays on Butler Street when local businesses in Lower Lawrenceville stay open late, offering drinks, food, music and discounts.

Mark Burleson, Kim Greene, Timothy VanBeke and Merrie Wright are ceramic artists from various parts of the country. Aesthetically delightful, their work examines organic forms and contemporary iconography. Greene’s ceramic balloons float about the space, while Wright’s whimsical animals are photographed in urban spaces, and the scientific beauty of Van Beke’s glossy ceramic panels charmingly challenge your concept of ceramic art.

La Vie will host a closing reception for “Natural Distortions” on March 22, 2008, during the NCECA conference. The exhibition will be accessible at Stop 3 on the Strip District Bus Route on Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Thu- Sat 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., with a reception on March 22, from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. Tickets for the shuttle cost $20 and will provide transportation between galleries.

La Vie consistently offers fine art by local artists in carefully selected shows every 45 to 60 days. Bronwyn Loughren and Thommy Conroy use the gallery as a studio, providing graphic design services, hand-made cards and invitations, floral arrangements and specialty event planning. The shop purveys prints, jewelry, pottery, sculpture and publications. La Vie exclusively carries hand-painted clothing by Mary Margaret Stewart of Iman B, formerly located on Ellsworth Street in Shadyside, as well as signature t-shirts by Ladyboy and Budai. La Vie is open Wednesday thru Saturday 12 – 6, Sunday 12 – 3 and conveniently by appointment.

Current and past shows as well as everything featured at La Vie can be seen at www.laviepittsburgh.com.

2008 CAC SUMMER CO-ED SLOW-PITCH SINGLES SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Are you interested in summer socializing, exercise and some fun?
Then we have just the thing for you! Each year CAC organizes a spring-summer co-ed softball league consisting of 7 or 8 teams, with weekly games played every Sunday, beginning in April. Games are played on the VA Medical Center softball field near the Highland Park Zoo. We have some returning and new coaches this year, both female and male.

After the game, we gather at a local bar/restaurant where we talk, eat, and have some post game fun. The entire season is then followed by our annual sports picnic in September where we gather to share a good time.

Our league attracts not only CAC members, but many non-CAC members as well. The league is focused on fun. PEOPLE OF ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN, even if you have never played before. Teams are put together using a draft system. Please fill out your application completely (which can be found at www.cacpittsburgh.org or contact Meredith) as players are placed in rounds based on their application. The coaches then draft a player from each round. We have league practice / pick up games on Thursday evenings.

The cost is $35.00 for CAC members, $40.00 for CAC Alumni and $45.00 for non-members. This includes a team shirt and September catered picnic. You must be single and over the age of 21. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. If enough players sign up before the deadline, all additional applications will be placed on the waiting list. All players qualify for league play regardless of softball ability, and if you show up for your game on time, you are guaranteed to play. There will be no refunds after a player has been assigned to a team (mid March).

If you have any questions please call: Meredith at 412-683-8082, or Email mp22gap@yahoo.com

Please complete the application form and return it following these guidelines:

MEMBER of CAC -with one legal size (4”x 9 ½”) self-addressed stamped white envelope, with your check payable to CAC of Pittsburgh for $35.00. Includes paid Alumni members (married members, now on Alumni mailing list)
