A concert featuring the music of Italian singer-song writer Claudio Chieffo, performed by New York City musician Riro Maniscalco. Free to the public. Homemade biscotti and fresh caffe' will be served.
"He (Chieffo) spent his life–with limited means but always with the utmost respect for his listeners–generously performing for large as well as small audiences, always aware of the task of carrying everywhere, through his songs, the beauty and the truth he had encountered…he did not perceive his public as an audience, but as a community, a precious listener, a person, with whom, in time, he grew, being part of the same history, and thus leaving his own indelible mark" (Massimo Bernardi, Traces no. 8).
Born in Pesaro, Italy, Riro Maniscalco moved with his family to New York City in 1995, where he has played with some of the city’s finest musicians. He contributed to Chieffo’s “Come la Rosa,” a CD recorded in NYC in 2001. His own albums include “Blues and Mercy” with Jonathan Fields. His passion as a musician makes him an unforgettable performer.

Welcome to the neighborhood! From Squirrel Hill to Lawrenceville and Mt. Washington to the South Side – the 2008 Pittsburgh Heart Ball is celebrating what makes Pittsburgh America’s most livable city - its’ people and its’ neighborhoods. Join us on Saturday, February 23 at the Hilton Hotel as Pittsburgh’s premier gala takes you through many of the city’s most interesting, unique and ethnically diverse areas with a ‘street fair’ of fun-filled games and fabulous prizes all benefiting the American Heart Association.
As over 900 of our guests experienced last year, this is an exciting and entertaining evening including marvelous dining, dancing and taking part in the extraordinary live auction.
In addition to providing a night of community celebration, the Annual Heart Ball has been the Allegheny Division’s largest fundraising event. 75% of your contribution supports research, school site programs and public and professional education programs in this region. Currently, the American Heart Association is funding 58 investigators at varying stages of their research with grants totaling more than $9.4 million in Pittsburgh institutions.
The funding from the Heart Ball directly supports the American Heart Association’s mission of “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
This affair also marks the presentation of the 2008 Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award. This year, the award will be presented to Dr. William P. Follansbee, Professor of Medicine and Director of Nuclear Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
The festivities will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:30pm - please make plans to join us!

2008 CAC SUMMER CO-ED SLOW-PITCH SINGLES SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Are you interested in summer socializing, exercise and some fun?
Then we have just the thing for you! Each year CAC organizes a spring-summer co-ed softball league consisting of 7 or 8 teams, with weekly games played every Sunday, beginning in April. Games are played on the VA Medical Center softball field near the Highland Park Zoo. We have some returning and new coaches this year, both female and male.

After the game, we gather at a local bar/restaurant where we talk, eat, and have some post game fun. The entire season is then followed by our annual sports picnic in September where we gather to share a good time.

Our league attracts not only CAC members, but many non-CAC members as well. The league is focused on fun. PEOPLE OF ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN, even if you have never played before. Teams are put together using a draft system. Please fill out your application completely (which can be found at www.cacpittsburgh.org or contact Meredith) as players are placed in rounds based on their application. The coaches then draft a player from each round. We have league practice / pick up games on Thursday evenings.

The cost is $35.00 for CAC members, $40.00 for CAC Alumni and $45.00 for non-members. This includes a team shirt and September catered picnic. You must be single and over the age of 21. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. If enough players sign up before the deadline, all additional applications will be placed on the waiting list. All players qualify for league play regardless of softball ability, and if you show up for your game on time, you are guaranteed to play. There will be no refunds after a player has been assigned to a team (mid March).

If you have any questions please call: Meredith at 412-683-8082, or Email mp22gap@yahoo.com
