48TH ANNUAL BAND FESTIVALThe Norwin Band Aides will host the 48th Annual Norwin Band Festival on Saturday, September 13 at the Norwin High School Stadium locatedat 251 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon, PA 15642.Stadium gates will open at 3:00 p.m.The Norwin Band is pleased to welcome 14 bands to our Festival:Beaver, Deer Lakes, East Allegheny, Fox Chapel, Gateway, GreaterLatrobe, Kiski, Mars, McKeesport, Penn-Trafford, Southmoreland, Springdale, and West Allegheny.The first band will begin competition at 4:00 p.m and the evening performances will conclude with the Norwin Band in exhibition at approximately 9:30 p.m.At least one $500 scholarship will be presented during the evening,encouraging the continued study of music and dance.Delicious bake sale items will be available for purchase as well as stadium concessions. Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh, Inc. presents a Road Race/Walk 5k to benefit an orphange in the Philippines that needs formula for babys and to raise funds for the Philippine Nationalty Room at the University of Pittsburgh. It will be Saturday, September 13, 2008 @ 9AM. Course will be in North Park near the pool area. Race is part trail and part pavement and professionally timed. Free parking, entertainment, fun and refreshments. Medals in mulitple age categories. Entry fee is $20.00 per person, family rate is $45.00. So come out to enjoy the fall colors, get some excercise and support a great cause.

WHAT: The Girlfriend Recovery Club, a non-profit organization whose mission is to comfort, inspire and guide women in recovery from illness, interpersonal issues, or loss, will be hosting “Girlfriends’ Day in the Village” on Saturday, Sept. 13th from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Girlfriends’ Day in the Village day will include:

Jazz-Poetry Concert turns Sampsonia Way— a tiny inner-city alley on Pittsburgh’s North Side—into a site of world-class performances spanning the disciplines of art, literature and music. The Concert promotes awareness of increasing global repression of literary writers, and showcases inter-cultural, multi-disciplinary collaborations with multi-cultural perspectives. Sampsonia Way is closed to traffic and filled with chairs, a stage and giant projection screen are set up, and speakers are placed hundreds of feet down the street, to accommodate the audience of over 700. For this day, Pittsburgh is the center of the world when it comes to defending and exemplifying free expression. Featuring jazz great, Oliver Lake, and 9 poets from around the world. In case of rain, concert moves to New Hazlett Theater.

The Pittsburgh Rose Society will hold the Fall Rose Festival on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Bidwell Training Center's Drew Mathieson Horticulture Center. The events include the Fall Rose Show, which is open to the public from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, and the annual Rose auction with bidding starting at 3:00 pm. Preview of the roses to be auctioned will begin at 2:00 pm. All events are free and open to the public. Anyone wishing to enter roses in the judged show may do so.
