The Regina Gouger Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University presents “Nancy Crow: Works from 1988-2008,” featuring more than 50 quilts that make it the largest exhibition ever of Crow’s work. On June 11, Crow will lecture and sign copies of her books at 7 p.m. in McConomy Auditorium in the University Center. Former Miller Gallery Director Petra Fallaux curates the summer exhibition, which opens with a reception June 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. and runs through August 15.
The Regina Gouger Miller Gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday, 11:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Rather than assembling a “greatest hits” compilation or a chronological survey of Crow’s career, “Nancy Crow: Works from 1988-2008” presents the works with an eye toward uncovering the artist’s process of discovery in these pivotal years. The exhibition includes examples of her quilts “Bow Tie,” “Chinese Souls” and “Linear Studies” series, as well as more than 30 works from the “Color Blocks” and “Constructions” series, including a half-dozen new quilts that will be unveiled at the exhibition.

Unnecessary Farce
Farce | Written by Paul Slade Smith
June 17 - June 29

Deadly bagpipes, a bumbling mayor, incompetent cops, the Highland Clan's Big Mac and the infamous Highland Hitman - who, it is said, always dons a kilt and plays the bagpipes before making a kill - all converge on a hotel room where the city's new accountant discovers embezzlement. The day does not start off well when two inexperienced police officers bumble the videotape surveillance and record more than they bargained for. To crack the case the officers must overcome their fear of the dark, guns, enclosed spaces, and the opposite sex. Unnecessary Farce delivers a huge laugh with its raucous comedic twists and turns.

Pittsburgh celebrates its 250th birthday this year, and what better way to celebrate with birthday cake? Better yet, perhaps 250 birthday cakes! That is exactly what Three Rivers Art Festival (TRAF) and Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP) are cooking up. The talented artists of AAP will be mixing up some creative ingredients into birthday cakes. That's right, all kinds of cakes, in all kinds of artistic media. Unique, decorative cake interpretations of this milestone, will be on display at the PPG Wintergarden as part of this year's Three Rivers Arts Festival, beginning June 6 and running through June 22.
Closing Reception and Cake Party 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday June 22
