"Passages" by Randie Snow

“Passages”
Randie Snow
moxie DaDA presents the artwork of local artist, Randie Snow. Randie has been collecting things her entire life – a lot of them seemingly innocuous, mundane little objects with no apparent meaing. But when Snow discovered assemblage, she knew instantly why all of these things had come into her life.

Each of these objects is like a new friend - a friend that needs a new home, maybe some direction, and a new purpose. “Often we meet during my everyday routine; they’re living in the middle of the street, hiding in dark little corners at flea markets, or cowering at the bottom of drawers in my house. It’s not always clear why we cross paths. It takes time for me to get to know them, and it takes a while for them to be comfortable with me. But when the mutual recognition happens, it’s powerful. Each one of them has a story, a history, and when the time is right, they tell me what they want to say.”

And so, instead of an artist, Ms. Snow becomes a medium of sorts. She helps her new little friends find their voice and tell a new story that they’ve discovered - together

A public reception will be held, Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 6-9 p.m.

Wired to Win

Wired to Win, an extraordinary new film in IMAX®, showcases the amazing ability of the human brain to overcome adversity, accomplish the near-impossible, and power each of us to victory and success in life.

The brain’s abilities are illustrated through cyclists racing in the Tour De France. Over the course of the event, they are caught up in hair-raising crashes, dramatic battles over the Alps and Pyrenees and action-packed descents down steep mountain roads. Their ultimate goal? The finish line on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The film raises the questions "how do they do this?" and "why do they do this?" Ultimately the answers lie within the mind and the human brain itself.

$8 adults; $6 children 3-12 and seniors 62+

2nd Annual Memorial Week Troop Benefit and Auction

23 May 2008
Santosha Yoga Center will be holding its second annual Memorial Week Troop Benefit & Auction, May 19th – 24th at its Gibsonia studio. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Yellow Ribbon Girls; a group which provides over 100 care packages each month to members of the armed forces proudly serving throughout the world.

The Yellow Ribbon Girls were founded by Patti Phillippi, Bonnie Phillippi, and Vicki Henley to support their brother, Major John Stich, an Army Critical Care Nurse, who was deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Beginning with only a few yellow ribbons and pins, their campaign has not stopped, making over 10,000 bows and pins of every size imaginable. With the donations from the bows and pins and with the help of friends, neighbors, schools and churches, the Yellow Ribbon Girls have been able to ship over 6500 care packages to hundreds of troops serving throughout the world.

Santosha Yoga Center, located at 4005 Vista Vue Drive in Gibsonia, is currently seeking ad booklet sponsors and auction items for their event. Any donations would significantly add to their fundraising efforts and all proceeds from this event will benefit the Yellow Ribbon Girls and help them to continue to provide this much needed service for our troops.

Auction items will be available for bid all week during regularly scheduled classes. Additionally, Santosha Yoga Center will be accepting monetary and supply donations to further assist the Yellow Ribbon Girls in their efforts. A sponsorship packet as well as a complete list of supply needs can be found at www.santoshayogapa.com or by visiting the Yellow Ribbon Girls website at www.yellowribbongirls.com.

If you or someone you know is interested in sponsorship, donating or participating in this event, please contact Matthew Imhof, Event Chair at 724-449-9642 or email yoga@santoshayogapa.com.
