Bricolage presents
The 5th Column
bu Ernest Hemingway
Directed by Mladen Kiselov
Ernest Hemingway was one of the twentieth century's most important novelists, as well as a brilliant short story writer and foreign correspondent. Join Bricolage as we present Hemingway’s only full-length play, The Fifth Column -not the dramatization of a novel or story—but a drama written for the stage that brilliantly evokes the tumultuous Spain of the 1930s. These works, which grew from Hemingway's adventures as a newspaper correspondent in and around besieged Madrid, movingly portray the effects of war on soldiers, civilians, and the correspondents sent to cover it.

"A bold, urgent voice...engaging scenes and muscular, noirish dialogue." - TimeOut NY

"A remarkable contemporaneous account, a trenchant observer's record of the large and small moments that make up a war." - New York Sun
2008 STAGED READING PERFORMANCE SERIES

Committed to our vision of staging new works and re-imagined classics, we are back with a brand new line-up of dynamic plays. Beginning in March and continuing each month thereafter through August, Bricolage will showcase a play a month. The directors, actors and designers are given a week to rehearse their piece and will present, with book-in-hand, the staged reading performance for two evenings, a Sunday and Monday, in our space at 937 Liberty Avenue FIRST FLOOR. Each production is free and open to the public.

PICK YOUR PLAY

Just like last year, what makes this series unique is the audience participation. At the end of this six-month series, through an internet survey, we will ask YOU to choose which play you would most like to see fully realized. Whichever play receives the most enthusiastic response will become a future Bricolage production.

TICKET AND SCHEDULE INFORMATION

The Staged Reading Performance Series runs at our space 937 Liberty Ave. 1st floor at Smithfield Street. Parking is conveniently located across the street at reasonable rates.

Each event is FREE and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved by calling Bricolage at 412-381-6999 or e-mailing tami@webbricolage.org.
This series is supported in part by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and generous patrons like you. To learn how to become a sponsor of Bricolage programming or to volunteer for Bricolage events contact Tami at tami@webbricolage.org.
