15 Oct 2008
At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 10 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation. We meet on the University Of Pittsburgh's campus in L-5 Clapp Hall (Lowy Room), on the corner of Fifth and Tennyson Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, across from the Cathedral of Learning. We meet from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Wednesday of each month.

MIXED UP WEDNESDAYS

15 Oct 2008
"Mixed up Wednesdays" takes place each Wednesday night at Lava Lounge located at 2204 East Carson Street on Pittsburgh's South Side. Resident DJ Ian Friend and special guests Adammmm and Sasqautch of MFPA fame spin classic and current underground dance music, old skool hip hop, 80's new wave and much more. The event runs from 10p.m. to 2a.m. with no cover, drink specials and 50 wings from the Double Wide Grill.
It's hard not get into the groove with the likes of Brazil's own CSS & Bonde Do Role blasting through the speakers. The dj's could at that point twist and turn you directly to france by spinning some of their current underground craze by the likes of Yelle, Ca$hmere or SebastiAn.
It's hard to know where else they will take you with the every growing collection of music and tracks that were purchased and debuted mere hours before the start of the event. One thing is for sure: Mixed Up Wednesdays is not for the faint heart but the party animals.

Peter Reder is a performance artist from the U.K. who has developed Guided Tour, a site-specific performance where the audience will be led behind the scenes of the Carnegie Museums after hours. It’s a tourist experience for the disenchanted, a quiet interrogation of the notion of the authentic and our thirst for the original. Guided Tour was premiered at McEwan Hall at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2005, and has since been presented at the Tretyakov Gallery Moscow, the Coliseum (Bragadiru Palace), Bucharest, and the National Museum of Singapore.

Tickets: $20/ $10 Student

“It’s a tourist outing for deconstructionists”
The Scotsman
There’s so much history around, so many books, TV programs,
museums, heritage sites, there’s no space left for the present.
Or was it the other way round, it’s all present, without any past?
(Guided Tour, final chapter)
Presented in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts.
