A “BERRY” GOOD TIME FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The 16th annual Shadyside Presbyterian Church Strawberry Festival will be held on Friday, June 13, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Shadyside congregation will host a traditional evening of fun, games, and delicious food to celebrate the impending arrival of summer and support The Pittsburgh Project, a local non-profit community development organization.

With something for everyone, the Strawberry Festival offers a perfect evening of family fun. Menu items will include cake, ice cream, fresh strawberries, grilled hot dogs, chips, and hot and cold drinks, including root beer floats. Baked goods will also be available for purchase. Activities will include games with prizes for everyone, pony rides (from 6:00 to 8:00), crafts, balloons, temporary tattoos, and live music provided by the Good Time Music Company. (In the event of rain, the festivities will move indoors – no ponies.)

There is no charge for admission; crafts, tattoos, and the cake walk are free. Refreshments and baked goods may be purchased with cash. Tickets for other activities are three for $1; games require one ticket, balloons require three tickets, and pony rides require twelve tickets. All proceeds from the festival’s activities will benefit The Pittsburgh Project, an urban, neighborhood-based, Christian community development organization.

Shadyside Presbyterian Church is centrally located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s educational/cultural district, just a few blocks away from the campuses of the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. The church is situated on the corner of Amberson Avenue and Westminster Place, one block off Fifth Avenue, and is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Call 412-682-4300 for more information, or visit www.shadysidepres.org.

For 23 years, The Pittsburgh Project has poured time and resources into developing leaders and serving the city’s most vulnerable residents – operating a progressive series of afterschool programs for urban young people, deploying over 2,500 people annually to perform free home repairs for Pittsburgh’s in-need elderly homeowners, outfitting college students for urban service and leadership, and spearheading economic development and anti-violence efforts in our Pittsburgh neighborhood.
