Librarians Battle Futurist Artists in New Radio Play

Beaver, PA: Librarians and art will collide in the latest live radio
performance of "Dodge Intrepid and the Pages of Time" at Café Kolache on May 10th at 7:00pm. The free show features four new episodes of the old-fashioned radio drama filled with excitement, adventure and humor for the whole family.

Parodying the radio serials of the '30s and '40s, this latest
performance, subtitled "Web of the Futurist," follows Beaver County
librarian/time-traveler Dodge Intrepid and his loyal intern, Pluck
Gumption, as they battle an Italian villain known as The Futurist.
Their adventure combines pulpy action and literary satire as they
travel through time to defend the honor of the library. The show also
has a dose of art history in the mix.

"We've taken an obscure modern art movement and embodied it in this villain called The Futurist," says co-writer Mike Rubino. "It's a hilarious way to learn about the movement and everything it stood for."

"It's not often that you get to write a show that features Plato and a
librarian fighting a giant mechanical spider," says co-writer, and voice of Dodge Intrepid, James Catullo.

Episodes feature all of the clichés of the classic radio serials like
"The Shadow" or "The Green Hornet:" secret decoder messages,
cliffhangers, sound effects, and commercials for ridiculous products
like "Breakfast in a Jar" and "Potted Meat."

The "Dodge Intrepid" radio series was first created by Mike Rubino and James Catullo back in 2005. Since then, they have written and
performed over 40 episodes, which have also been podcast on the iTunes Music Store and on their blog (dodgeintrepid.blogspot.com). Performing alongside Rubino and Catullo is Michael Hinzman. All three are also members of the Beaver County-based sketch comedy and improv troupe, the Cellar Dwellers.

"Passages" by Randie Snow

“Passages”
Randie Snow
moxie DaDA presents the artwork of local artist, Randie Snow. Randie has been collecting things her entire life – a lot of them seemingly innocuous, mundane little objects with no apparent meaing. But when Snow discovered assemblage, she knew instantly why all of these things had come into her life.

Each of these objects is like a new friend - a friend that needs a new home, maybe some direction, and a new purpose. “Often we meet during my everyday routine; they’re living in the middle of the street, hiding in dark little corners at flea markets, or cowering at the bottom of drawers in my house. It’s not always clear why we cross paths. It takes time for me to get to know them, and it takes a while for them to be comfortable with me. But when the mutual recognition happens, it’s powerful. Each one of them has a story, a history, and when the time is right, they tell me what they want to say.”

And so, instead of an artist, Ms. Snow becomes a medium of sorts. She helps her new little friends find their voice and tell a new story that they’ve discovered - together

A public reception will be held, Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 6-9 p.m.

CWF Pro Wrestling

The Championship Wrestling Federation makes its debut in Washington, Pa., on Saturday, May 10 with its “Brownson House Brawl” wrestling extravaganza. The star-studded event will be the first live professional wrestling show in Washington in more than six years.

In the first half of the double main event, former WWE superstar Doink the Clown battles the evil Lord Zoltan. Doink is known for his unorthodox antics both in and out of the ring, a style that is sure to clash with the no-nonsense ways of Lord Zoltan, a wrestling mainstay in Western Pennsylvania for more than 30 years. But Zoltan won’t try to battle the legendary Doink alone as both his manager Mayor Mystery and tag team partner Nasty Nick will be in his corner. Will three-on-one be too much for Doink?

The second half of the double main event will see The Beast put the CWF Heavyweight Championship on the line against “The Future” Calvin McGrath. The Beast has been unstoppable since winning the championship in October, but wrestling insiders peg McGrath as one of the sport’s future superstars.

Additionally, Washington County’s own Powerhouse Hughes will battle the “Ace of Hearts” Shane Valentine in another highlighted match-up. Also on the show will be “The Spotlight” Scottie Gash, Zubov, Eric Xtasy, Justin Idol, Kato, Dee Drake, Jason Gory, Facade and more.

“Professional wrestling has a long history in Washington. The entire CWF roster is thrilled to be bringing live pro wrestling back to the city ” said CWF Commissioner Burt LeGrande. “This card is loaded with wrestling stars of the past, present and future. It will be a very special evening.”

CWF Pro Wrestling has been providing Western Pennsylvania with top-notch professional wrestling action since 2000; for more information, visit www.cwf-online.com.

Wired to Win, an extraordinary new film in IMAX®, showcases the amazing ability of the human brain to overcome adversity, accomplish the near-impossible, and power each of us to victory and success in life.

The brain’s abilities are illustrated through cyclists racing in the Tour De France. Over the course of the event, they are caught up in hair-raising crashes, dramatic battles over the Alps and Pyrenees and action-packed descents down steep mountain roads. Their ultimate goal? The finish line on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The film raises the questions "how do they do this?" and "why do they do this?" Ultimately the answers lie within the mind and the human brain itself.
